![]() The Kindergarten report card uses levels of performance, narrative comments, and marking symbols (Social and Emotional Learning Indicators) to share progress and performance towards the new Illinois Learning Standards. Second Step is a social/emotional curriculum, is utilized in the classroom to help build students’ self-awareness and sense of community. To monitor student growth we use a school wide program, Fountas and Pinnell. Your kids will come home singing the songs every day Jĭuring the literacy block students will work on building up their reading stamina as well as learning reading strategies. Jolly Phonics is a phonics and handwriting curriculum that gradually teaches students all 42 sounds to music and movement. ![]() We use Pearson enVision math program (used in grades K-5) that helps give students a solid knowledge of numbers and number sense to build upon in the future. Kindergarten does weekly thematic units that incorporate many social and emotional skills, reading, science, social studies and math. Kindergartners also learn and get used to the routines of school, how to work in groups, and how to be a successful student. There is still playing, singing and crafts in Kindergarten, but these things are often balanced with more rigorous writing, reading, and math activities and lessons. You will see your child grow and develop significantly, both as a person and as a student. Kindergarten is a year of physical, social, emotional, and academic growth. You may find this information in our weekly Newsletter, posted on the “Shared Kindergarten” website. Classes use the themes to teach math, science, social studies, art, writing, and language arts. Kindergarten classes are taught thematically the themes change weekly and go around the calendar holidays. The Kindergarten team works closely all year to ensure they are implementing the same learning goals for all classes.
